News from Executive Director, Vickie Snyder

The days are shorter, the weather is cooler, and the summer flowers are beginning to wither… only to be replaced with the vibrant colors of mums and changing leaves. It reminds me that as life changes, those changes bring new and positive experiences.

With shorter days, we have less light through our windows at 6:00 a.m. The cooler weather changes our health needs, too. Dehydration and sunburn are less of a concern as the cooler, crisp air moves in. Let’s embrace the change and enjoy the cool days ahead.

Inside DevonHouse, autumn means changes as well. This month we’ll see Halloween decorations spring up, an Oktoberfest themed buffet, and our annual trick-or-treat party with neighborhood kids. Plus, the video photo booth will be back for our party. I hope you’ll join us for the fun!

As we move fully into autumn this month, let’s all try to spend some time on the patios before it’s too cold, and enjoy each other’s company as we take in the beautiful sights and sounds of this lovely season.

Happy Autumn!

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

Our theme meal this month is “Oktoberfest.” We’ll have the dining room decorated, the music playing, and a full buffet of traditional German Oktoberfest cuisine.

Bakers club will meet later in the month, and our treat will continue the Oktoberfest theme.

Our outdoor picnics will continue this month until the weather changes over. Start looking for changes on the menu this month as we move from our warm weather menu to our cool weather menu.

News from the Activity Department

Our theme for October is Halloween! Pumpkins, witches, ghosts, and black cats…. everything orange and black. We’ll have a contest running for the whole month: look for a pumpkin jar outside the dining room and submit your guess for the number of candies in the jar. The winner will be announced on October 30th.

Our ladies’ tea will be a “Monster Mash” theme. Come dressed in costume, however you like! The sky is the limit. A prize will be awarded for the best costume.

The video theater photo booth is back by popular demand for our trick-or-treat party this year! This is a professional photo booth complete with props. It’s free, and everyone gets a strip of pictures to keep or share!

And, of course our tree will be decorated for Halloween. I’ve got a couple of crafty tricks up my sleeve. Join in on the fun!

P.S. You can see more about the activities our residents enjoy on our facebook page.
