News from Executive Director, Vickie Snyder

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! After 14 years, I am still grateful for the opportunity to share the holiday spirit with the wonderful people who spent their holidays making sure that DevonHouse was a warm, safe, and fun place to be for our residents.

First, thank you to the personal care staff who readied the residents for the day. It’s a challenging job on a regular day, but making sure that everyone is ready for their families on a holiday morning is extra special.

Second, to the medication administrators and nurses, thank you for assuring that on top of your normal busy routine, everyone who left for the day had the medications they required to keep them safe and healthy.

Thank you to the food and beverage staff, who made everyone feel truly at home, with a traditional, home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner for all to enjoy.

To the manager on duty, the activity staff and the housekeeping staff, thank you for spending your holiday making DevonHouse a fun and exciting place to be. You display a true warmth that fits the mood for the first day of our holiday season.

You are all special and your care and compassion is the heart of DevonHouse!

During this joyful season, we gather with friends and family to celebrate. Our December schedule is full of events to keep everyone in he holiday spirit. Our Christmas tree is up and sparkling, and during Hannukah we’re lighting the menorah each night in the living room. And, we’re excited to welcome local performers of all ages for musical entertainment all month long.

As I look back on another wonderful year, I’m thankful for our residents, their families and friends, and our staff for the joy they bring to our lives every day.

I wish you all the best this holiday season, and a very happy new year.

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

We’re celebrating Christmas with a traditional Christmas ham dinner served at lunch on Christmas Day, and look forward to being a part of this special day with the DevonHouse family.

And, our annual pie sale is on! Pies are available for order at the front office. We will have them baked, boxed, and ready to go on the day you want the pie. Please give us 24 hours notice, and we’ll have a pie ready for you! Choose from six delicious flavors: apple cranberry, fruits of the forest, lemon crunch, pumpkin, Dutch apple, or pecan.

Bakers club will meet later in the month to make our traditional roll out cookies.

The menu changes for the winter are complete. I hope everyone enjoys the new items on the menu and has a very happy holiday!

News from the Activity Department

Hold onto your hats! Our schedule of holiday entertainment and visitors is packed! Musical entertainment, a dance recital, holiday games, plus all of our regular activities like birthday lunches and therapy dog visits fill our December with warmth, joy, and excitement. Please participate and help spread the holiday cheer!

While Allentown has cancelled the “Lights in the Parkway” this year due to a construction issue, we’re not letting that keep us from the beautiful holiday light displays. Instead, we are offering trips to see the best of the “local lights” around the neighborhood in the weeks before Christmas.

P.S. You can see more about the activities our residents enjoy on our facebook page.
