Program Spotlight

January is a special month: the new year inspires us to renew and refresh as we also return to comfortable routines after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

During this time of balancing newness and comfort, we’re highlighting the health and fitness programs that are part of the happy routine here at DevonHouse. Our fitness offerings help with physical and spiritual balance, and bring residents together for fun and friendship.

Following are highlights of the regular, year-round health and fitness offerings for all residents:

Yoga (Mondays)
An ages-old gentle fitness and mind-body routine for strength, flexibility, and relaxation (seated).

Sit-ercise (Tuesdays)
Sitting exercises to increase strength and improve flexibility and muscle tone.

Standing Exercise (Wednesdays)
Standing exercise to increase strength and get your whole body moving!

Tai Chi (Thursdays)
Known as the “longevity exercise” tai chi has been practiced in China for hundreds of years. This peaceful, meditative movement increases energy and well-being.

Dancercise (Fridays)
Our Friday dance party combines music and fun for an aerobic workout that doesn’t feel like work at all!

Sit-and-Tone (Saturdays)
This lively workout tones the whole body, including the core and lower body, all while seated.

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

We’re jumping into January with meals that celebrate the new year and winter traditions. New Year’s Day features pork and sauerkraut for good luck. Later in the month, our “Winter Wonderland Meal” will delight with seafood scampi and beef brisket with stuffing, along with seasonal sides and desserts.

Baker’s Club will meet at the end of the month and bake a resident’s recipe: Nona’s Banana Nut Bread. Remember to submit your recipes to Melissa for next month!

Thanks to everyone who ordered a pie from us over the holidays. The pies were a big hit as always, and will be back next year!
