From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson

“If there is no shadow to be cast, an early spring is in the forecast”. The groundhog didn’t see his shadow this year, and from the looks of things the past week, his forecast was right on!

All of the snowstorms and ice just a few weeks ago seem like a distant memory now, but I’d like to say here how very pleased and impressed I am with the DevonHouse staff. I am proud to see the dedication of our staff and their deep compassion for our residents.

Over the next several months we will be adding some new events to our activities calendar and re-visiting and updating some of the long-time favorites. We always welcome comments or suggestions! And of course families have an open invitation to to attend any of our functions. You are always welcome!

Again, I want to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome here, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself! My door is always open.

We’re celebrating both St. Patrick’s day and Easter this month with special meals. The St. Patrick’s Day theme meal will be at dinner on St. Patrick’s day and feature corned beef and cabbage. Residents and families, please come join us wearing your favorite shade of green!

Our traditional Easter meal – ham with all the fixings – will be at lunch on Easter Sunday.

I hope everyone is enjoying our new breakfast option! The new pastry and snack cart is open in the lobby every morning from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for residents and visiting families to enjoy. Please help yourself to Danish, coffee, and other treats before heading to the dining room for breakfast, or for a quick tasty snack on mornings when you’d prefer not to come to the dining room for the full meal. The cart is also open from from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for an afternoon pick-me-up.

News from Activities

Before we “spring forward,” a hearty congratulations to our Valentine’s Day winners! Joe Bakes and Rosemary Lenahan were crowned king and queen at our Valentine’s Day dinner. Thank you to everyone who supported our Valentine’s sale. We raised $96, and we are still accepting suggestions for charities where these funds could best be utilized.

We’re celebrating St Patrick’s day with The O’Grady Quinlin Irish dancers on Tuesday March 15th. They are always a crowd pleaser!

This year we are again helping the Kiwanis club get ready for Easter by filling plastic Easter eggs for their annual egg hunt. Last year we filled over 6,000 eggs. Let’s try to top that this year! Visit the activity room anytime and we will put your hands to work. It’s great for dexterity, and supports a good cause, too.

The Easter bunny hops in for photos on March 18th. Please stop by to have your picture taken!

We’ll wrap up the holiday festivities with the annual DevonHouse Easter Egg Hunt for our friends second grade friends at Western Salisbury Elementary on March 24th (9:30.a.m in the living room), and our special meal at lunch on Easter Sunday.
