From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson

“The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March.”
– Robert Frost, Two Tramps in Mud Time, 1926

Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” Ever full of surprises, let’s hope that severe weather is behind us and we can look forward to blooming cherry trees and daffodils.

Please make sure to check out all of the exciting events planned for the Month of April:

  • Jim and Melissa’s “Think Spring” theme meal
  • The Wildlands Conservancy “All About Birds” Presentation
  • The New Pastry and Snack Cart in the Living Room.

Again, I want to extend an open invitation for families to attend any and all of our functions. You are always welcome!
And, we always welcome your comments or suggestions!
My door is always open.

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

It’s April, and we’re celebrating all things spring! Our theme meal, “Think Spring!” will feature fresh, seasonal spring menu items, and Melissa will decorate the dining room with a charming spring theme. Please check the calendar for details. All are welcome to join.

Remember, our pastry cart is here to stay! Please stop by the living room in the morning for pastry and coffee, and in the afternoon for a snack and a quick pick-me-up.

Bakers club will meet later in the month. We will feature a resident’s favorite recipe to bake.
Look for seasonal menu changes soon. Spring is here and summer is on the way!

News from Activities

For the second year in a row, the ladies at DevonHouse filled over 6,0000 Easter eggs for the Emmaus Kiwanis Club Easter Egg Hunt. What an accomplishment!

This month, we’re looking forward to a visit from The Wildlife Conservancy. Bird expert and naturalist Brandon Swayser will offer a stimulating talk, plus he’ll have live birds with him! Be sure to join us on Friday, April 8th for this unique event.

Want to see even more birds? Watch the eagles nest in Hanover, PA on the monitor in the living room. A bald eagle couple are parenting again this year.

The two eaglets should hatch by the end of March and will take flight by the end of June.
Finally, we’re looking ahead to next month’s theme. If you have memorabilia from Hess Bros. department store that we could use for inspiration or to borrow for a short time, please contact me. I’d love to hear from you!
