From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson
It’s July and summer is in full swing!!
It wouldn’t be Independence Day without a good old-fashioned picnic. We’ll be celebrating America on our patio with food and fun. We have a lot of exciting events planned for the rest July, too! Please check out all of the activities highlights.
Summer goes by fast, so be sure to mark your calendars for our annual family picnic on August 27th. This year’s theme is Hawaiian luau. Families and friends are encouraged to attend.
Do you have photos you’d like to share of your family members who are DevonHouse residents? We’re working on a memory wall for Grandparent’s Day in September to honor our residents, and we’d love to see photos of them throughout their lives. It’s not just for grandparents, either! We’re honoring all of the seniors who make our lives special.
Finally, please join me and the DevonHouse staff in wishing our resident Fern Ockovic a very happy 100th birthday on July 9th!

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
We will be celebrating the 4th of July with a picnic. We will have picnic style foods and will have the same menu on the patio and in the dining room, so it’s a picnic rain or shine!
Speaking of picnics, our weekly patio picnics are in full swing every Wednesday. (If the weather is bad on Wednesdays, the picnic is moved to Friday.) Please join us on the patio for some fresh air and great food right off the grill.
The theme meal for July is “The Beach,” with a seafood menu. Bakers club will meet later in the month. Please join us, and send us your recipes!

News from Activities
This month we offer our heartfelt good wishes to Fern Oskovic, who celebrates her 100th birthday on July 9th!
I’m very excited to be working on “memory wall” for Grandparent’s Day. During July and August, I will be collecting photos of residents from different times in their lives. It will be so much fun to see the photos and bring back memories!
We’re currently taking reservations for our annual trip to the Iron Pigs baseball game on August 5th. We’ll have dinner at the stadium, then stay to watch the fireworks after the game. It’s always a great night.
As you plan your summer, please remember to mark your calendar for our annual family picnic on Saturday, August 27. Get ready for a Hawaiian luau theme!
Finally, a special thank you to the Allentown Swing Club Society for making our senior prom so special last month!
