From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson
“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people… that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year.”
– Deb Caletti
There are all sorts of wonderful things happening at DevonHouse this August!
I’m pleased to announce that you’ll be seeing more of some familiar, friendly faces. We offer a warm welcome back to Adina Lowery, who you may remember from her eight years as part of the DevonHouse family in the resident services department. She has returned as our day shift supervisor. You’ll also be seeing more of Joni Kneas, from our night shift. She’s now serving as resident services manager.
Please stop in and say hello to our concierge, Nicole DeAngelo, too! She’s here to help arrange transportation, barber / salon appointments, and anything else you might need.
Our annual resident and family picnic is on August 27th. Residents and their families and friends are welcome to join us and bring the whole family for a day of fun and food!
– Rod Jackson, Executive Director
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
In keeping with our Luau theme for the month, we’re transforming the dining room into a Hawaiian paradise for our theme meal. Get ready for a succulent dinner that features tropical flavors like coconut, pineapple, and tangy barbecue!
Bakers Club this month will also follow the Luau theme. Join us to make authentic macaroons.
Patio picnics are in full swing and will keep going through August. The resident and family picnic is on August 27th and will feature picnic style food along with entertainment and a fun, carnival-like atmosphere.

Pack your bags! August’s theme is “Hawaiian Luau.”
We will be getting our hips moving as we learn a hula to the song “Pearly Shells” at our Friday dancercise class. Luau cocktails will be served at our monthly happy hour, plus we’ll have special treats at our Ladies’ Luau Tea.
We’re all looking forward to our annual resident and family picnic on August 27th. Please bring the whole family and join us under the tents for this fun-filled event! We’ll have live music, great food and fun for the whole family!
Finally, a heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to resident Jack Baker, who celebrates his 100th birthday on August 31st.
