From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson

Allentown Senior Living Executive DirectorOctober’s Party
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

Autumn is in the air!

Come and join the parties at DevonHouse this month! We have exciting events planned, including our annual Oktoberfest and Halloween celebrations.

We are also planning some new services for the convenience of our residents! We will have a mobile service available here to provide hearing, vision, and dental care right on site. And, flu shots are available at DevonHouse, too. Please see any of our care staff for details.

Our theme this month is “Oktoberfest.” Our theme meal will feature various delicious German dishes and a German dessert, plus, music and decorations to make it extra festive!

Thank you to everyone joined us on the patio for our picnics over the summer. We’ll be back out there with the grill starting next Memorial Day.

Our famous pie sale starts soon! Stay tuned for more information. As always, we’ll be starting in November and running through New Year’s Day.

Seasonal changes to the menu are coming soon, so please feel free to come talk to me if you have suggestions.

As always, Bakers Club will meet later in the month. Please let Melissa or me know if you have a recipe you would like to share.

News from Activities

Allentown Senior Living Activities Director
Thank you to everyone who attended our annual family picnic in August and our annual volunteer picnic in September. Both events were huge successes because of you.

We have great events coming up in October! We’re partnering with The Emmaus Public Library for “Book Talk,” a live books-on-tape. A librarian will join us monthly to recite a short story for all to enjoy. (The library also brings us a mobile book lending service. If you’ve not enjoyed this yet, please see me for details!)

On Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10:00, FOX rehabilitation offers morning exercise. This hour long exercise is lead by exercise physiologist, Cameron, and is tailored to challenge you and increase your overall health and well being.

Our annual trick-or-treat night is Friday, October 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in our living room. Neighborhood children, as well as children and grandchildren of residents and coworkers are invited to join in on the festivities. We provide candy, but we always appreciate extras!

-Melissa Bartynski, Director of Activities

P.S. You can see more about the activities our residents enjoy on our facebook page.
