From the Desk of the Executive Director, Rodney Jackson
“Over the river and through the woods
Trot fast my dapple gray.
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound
On this Thanksgiving Day, hey!
Over the river and through the woods
Now Grandmother’s face I spy.
Hurrah for the fun,
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.”
– English folksong
November is truly a month to be thankful! We have a lot to be thankful for at DevonHouse: our community of residents, their families, and our devoted staff, just to name a few!
As you make plans for the holiday season, please be sure to tell us if you’ll be leaving DevonHouse for family outings. That way, we’ll be able to have your medications and anything else you need ready for you when you leave.
And remember, families and friends are always welcome to join us on holidays for our wonderful feasts! Please let us know if you’ll be joining us for our Thanksgiving feast so that we can plan to have enough for everyone!

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
November means two things for us: Thanksgiving and PIE! On Thanksgiving Day, we will offer our traditional Thanksgiving feast, with turkey, all the fixings, and pumpkin pie during the lunchtime meal.
Speaking of pie, our annual pie sale starts this month. We offer a variety of pies that you can order for the holidays and pick up baked, boxed, and ready to go! The menu and pricing will be posted soon. The pie sale runs until New Year’s Day and is open to everyone: residents, family members, staff, and friends of DevonHouse. Orders are taken at the front desk.
As you make your holiday plans this year, please note that we do not take reservations for the private dining room on major holidays.
Please let us know soon if you will be leaving DevonHouse on Thanksgiving Day OR if your family will be joining you for the meal. We want to be sure to have plenty of food and space for everyone who joins us!

News from Activities
We’re showing our thanks all throughout November. On Veterans Day, we thank our veterans for their service. We will be participating in the “green light a vet” movement by shining a green light in their honor.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, we show our gratitude by giving to those in need. We invite your to “bake a difference” at our bake sale benefiting “Cookies for Kids’ Cancer” on November 28th. This national organization raises funds to help promote pediatric cancer research. Please stop in for some delicious cookies! Every dollar we raise will be matched.
And finally, our Football Sundays have officially kicked off! Join us every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the living room to watch the game on the big screen and enjoy snacks with us.
