From The Desk Of The Executive Director
The month of May – a month of celebrations and a real reprieve from a winter we thought would never end!
We begin this month with tributes to the mothers who nurtured us to become the adults we are today. We mold our children based on our own life experiences and the external forces that play major roles in our lifetimes. Our mothers made sacrifices “above and beyond,” fought hard, and scrapped every penny so that could have the many advantages that we now enjoy.
On a lighter note, I think of the truly dedicated mothers who wore polyester pants so that little folks with runny noses could always be given a hug! May your Mother’s Day be filled with many happy memories!
We end the month of May by remembering our veterans. On Memorial Day, we honor the many men and women who made the supreme sacrifice that enabled us to enjoy freedom today.
Here at DevonHouse, we have heroes from WWII, the Korean Conflict, Viet Nam, and Desert Storm. To our servicemen and women who fought for our freedom, we say a special thank you for your dedication. History comes alive with your firsthand remembrance of these difficult times. We salute all of our veterans!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
We’re celebrating two special days in May: Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. On Mother’s Day, enjoy a special lunchtime menu featuring a crab entree and strawberry themed dessert.
On Memorial Day, we’re having a picnic on the patio featuring hot dogs and hamburgers right off the grill, with all your favorite salads and sides. Memorial Day also kick starts our weekly patio lunches. Every Wednesday we will have lunch on the patio with items from the grill. Patio lunches continue throughout summer until the weather changes in the fall.
Bakers club meets later in the month. If you have a recipe that you would like to feature, please let us know!
