From The Desk Of The Executive Director
“June is bust’n out all over!” Remember that line from Carousel?
We are truly ready to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend quality time celebrating with family and friends. Weddings, graduations, and Father’s Day are perfect times to reconnect with loved ones!
This time of year, I especially appreciate that DevonHouse sits on such a lovely parcel of land surrounded by trees. It’s like being in a park! Often as the sun goes down, a herd of deer gracefully wander across the front lawn, grazing as they pass through. No wonder so many of our residents can be found on a warm evening enjoying the benches in front of our community.
With Father’s Day approaching, special memories of the men who guided us in our childhood come to the forefront as we reminiscence. Some may remember with fondness how Dad taught them to ride that shiny new bike or ”eye up” the pitched ball.
My dad was the expert in calculus and physics, and could be counted upon to provide extra help before exams. Recently, I glanced at my son, and realized that he was the exact image of my father: he, too, was patiently tutoring his young daughter on subtraction!
Thanks to all the dads and men who have guided and supported us, young and old! Enjoy your special day!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
Our famous Friends & Family Brunch is on Father’s Day! Join us for delectable breakfast and lunch favorites. Guests are welcome at the 1:00 pm seating. Please call Melissa or stop by the activities room to place your reservations by Wednesday, June 11th. We can accommodate up to seven guests per resident. If our 1:00 pm seating fills, we will make spaces available at noon and 11:00 am.
Our weekly patio picnics are underway every Wednesday. (If the weather is too rainy, the picnics will be held on Thursday.) The picnic lunches feature items right off the grill. Of course, our regular menu will be available inside, too. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the made-to-order food and fresh air!
Bakers club will meet later in the month. Everyone, please submit dessert-style recipes so we can prepare and feature your item!

News from Activities
Now that the weather is getting warmer, some favorite summer activities are returning to the calendar!
Our patio lunches are every Wednesday at the 11:00 am and noon seatings, weather permitting.
The gardening group meets every Tuesday at 4:00 pm. We plant flowers in the pots in the front and back of the building, and we keep them watered throughout the summer. And, most summers we grow tomatoes, vegetables, and herbs, which are used by the kitchen.
Remember to RSVP to our Father’s Day brunch by June 11th. I hope to see everyone’s friends and families there celebrating the dads!

P.S. You can see more about the activities our residents enjoy on our facebook page. Schedule highlights for the month are here.
