From The Desk Of The Executive Director

The red, white and blue banners flutter in the breeze, heralding Fourth of July celebrations across the country.

Independence came with great sacrifices for our forefathers as they created this great nation. They left their families in towns and on farms, many from various cultures and backgrounds to fight for the freedoms that we hold so dear!

In Philadelphia, re-enactors dressed in colonial garb circulate throughout Old City, relating the story of how the Continental Army was formed, and sharing the personal insights of the individuals who they represent. Each made a direct and unique contribution that makes the birth of this nation come alive.

Each of us has special memories of celebrations past and looks forward creating new ones. Children are excited with the anticipation of the local parades, as they decorate their bikes in hopes of winning the coveted prize. Antique autos are cranked — literally! — to swing into their own spectacular show on the parade route. Fire engines sirens loudly proclaim their presence.

Hot dogs and hamburgers are flying off the grocery shelves as families prepare for much-anticipated picnic celebrations where generations gather together to catch up on family gossip!

Here, too, our residents will enjoy a fabulous picnic with all the trimmings on July 4th. (We’ll be on the patio, weather permitting.) Jim and his staff will replicate those memories of holidays past for our special guests!

Have a happy fourth and a great July!

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

Allentown Senior Living Food and Beverage ManagerWe’re celebrating the fourth with a picnic, Texas style! Join us on the patio for our Texas-sized picnic bash on July 4th, featuring BBQ chicken, baked beans, and coleslaw. We’ll serve the same menu in the dining room, too.

Patio picnics continue every Wednesday, with items from the grill, and different sides and desserts each week.

Bakers club will get together on the third Thursday of the month. This month’s theme is patriotic.
With the hotter days approaching, please make sure you are staying hydrated. Be sure to drink plenty with your meals and make use of the water stations on the patio.
