From The Desk Of The Executive Director

image of autumn treeDuring this season of renewal and fresh starts, I’m delighted to be here at our community each and every day. Getting to know you during my time here as an owner of DevonHouse has been such a joy. Now, I have the unique privilege of serving as executive director for this community that I hold so dear.

As the days get shorter and the temperatures cool, exciting changes are in the air. Fall is a great time to renew and reconnect! Here at DevonHouse, families are coming back together after busy summer travels to relax with friends and family and make new memories.

There are so many opportunities to get together during the fall here at DevonHouse, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone!

Whether you’re here for our annual trick-or-treat night on October 26th, the bake sale on October 18th, or lunch or dinner with your loved one, please stop by and say hello.

My door is open, although you’ll more likely find me out and about talking with residents and staff!

Great things are on the way this fall and holiday season. I look forward to sharing all of it with you.

News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen

Allentown Senior Living Food and Beverage ManagerIt’s time for Oktoberfest! Our Oktoberfest event is on October 18th during the dinner hour, and will feature German style foods like bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, and black forest cake.

This month, look for changes to the menu for fall and winter that include delicious seasonal favorites.

We’re also gearing up for our annual pie sale! You can order from a variety of scrumptious pies that we will bake, box and have ready for you on the day you want. The pie sale is one of our most popular holiday traditions and will run from November to January 1st. This year we’re offering pumpkin, apple, lemon crunch, pecan, and cherry. Look for displays and more information soon!

News from Activities

Allentown Senior Living Activities DirectorFirst, a big welcome to all of the new residents at DevonHouse! I’m glad you are here, and I want to remind you that all of our activities are open to everyone. There is truly something for everyone! From music, to crafts, to cuddling up with a canine visitor, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.

Our annual trick-or-treat party is coming up soon. Did you know that this is one of our biggest events of the year? Each year we open our doors to about 200 kids for trick or treating in the living room. It’s so much fun to see all of the kids (and former kids) in costume!

Grandkids and great-grandkids of our residents, kids of our staff, and kids from the neighborhood are all welcome. I hope you’ll join us on October 26th at 6:00 pm for this fun event! We provide lots of candy, but we ask that guests bring candy, too, to contribute to the fun. It’s quite an evening!

-Melissa Bartynski, Director of Activities

P.S. You can see more about the activities our residents enjoy on our facebook page. Schedule highlights for the month are here.
