From The Desk Of The Executive Director
It’s the peak of spring! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and summer is on the way. But first… Mother’s Day is just around the corner on May 12th! It’s time to celebrate the nurturing women in our lives, and all that they’ve done for us over the years.
Whether it’s the mom who raised you, or the special women who nurtured you, supported you, and inspired you over the years, celebrate by telling them you love them, you care, and thanking them for all they’ve done for you.
Of course, love and gratitude know no particular day or season! We can tell the most important people in our lives that we love them any time, but isn’t it nice to have a reminder?
During this month of remembering those who have done so much for us, we also remember those who protected us through their service on Memorial Day. While we look forward to the unofficial start of summer, we also look back with gratitude to all those who served.
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
This month we are celebrating Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, and the unofficial start of summer. Our Mother’s Day celebration will be on Sunday May 12th, featuring chicken Chesapeake, shrimp scampi, and fresh, seasonal strawberries for dessert.
Join us on Memorial Day, Monday May 27th, for a holiday picnic on the patio. We will be serving hot dogs and burgers right off the grill, plus watermelon for dessert. The same menu will be served inside as well. The Memorial Day picnic will kick off our weekly summer patio lunches, which are every Wednesday and feature a different menu and special dessert each week. (The regular menu will be served in the dining room.) Patio picnics will run every week until the weather changes in the fall.

Ready for more spring and summer fun?
If you’re feeling inspired by the bright spring colors, come on out for another “PaintSome Pottery” event on Thursday, May 2nd. If you have already participated, you know it’s a great time, so please give new residents and first time painters a chance to sign up. Space is limited for this event so that everyone can get all of the attention and supplies that they need. The sign up is on the activity room door.
In honor of Mother’s Day, I encourage the ladies to join me for a “mini-makeover” afternoon on Thursday, May 9th. Then, on Sunday, May 12th everyone can enjoy our special Mother’s Day meal. It’s sure to be a treat!
Finally, I hope you’ll join us as our lifelong learning lecture series continues on Wednesday, May 29th. The Wildlands Conservancy will be here to teach us all about local wildlife and conservation efforts.
