From The Desk Of The Executive Director
Did you know that August 21st is National Senior Citizens Day? This day was created to recognize the achievements of seniors and to show them support, honor, and appreciation.
Here at DevonHouse, we’re dedicated to listening to the experiences of each resident so that we can better understand each person as an individual who shaped and was shaped by their unique journey. We all gain so much by developing relationships that honor each other this way.
It is especially fitting that this day of honoring seniors falls in the very month that we’re capturing the “aloha spirit” here. Aloha as a greeting expresses affection, gratitude, and kindness.
And speaking of tropical spirit, our annual Friends & Family Luau Picnic is coming up on August 24th. Be sure to join us to close out the summer. This event is a blast and we all look forward to seeing you!
P.S. As the tropical weather of August is upon us, please be sure to stay safe. Make use of our “hydration stations” throughout the community, and aim to spend the hottest hours of the day indoors (enjoying the fun activities here, no doubt)!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
Our annual Friends and Family Luau Picnic is just around the corner. This event is outdoors, with lots of food and entertainment. We’re having a cookout with a Hawaiian twist. Get ready for a taste of the tropics!
We have a new treat for the Luau this year, too! A funnel cake truck will be on site making fresh funnel cake for everyone, just like you see at the fair.
Everyone is invited to this fun event, and there is no limit on the amount of guests. I do ask that you RSVP so that I can make sure that there are enough treats for everyone.
Bakers Club is joining in on the luau fun, too. Join us on the 15th to make tasty macaroons!
