From The Desk Of The Executive Director
As I write this letter, I’m struck by just how rapidly life can change. During these unusual times, the mission to provide for the wellbeing of seniors is more important than ever.
The health and safety of residents, staff, and community have always been at the heart of what we do at DevonHouse, and to that end we have always been diligent in keeping our home sanitized and clean.
To keep everyone safe, we continue the extra vigilance and stepped up cleaning procedures we began in the last two months. That includes additional cleaning, using even more special disinfecting solutions, and all of our staff ensuring they are washing their hands even more, and using hand sanitizers frequently in between washes.
As we work hard to maintain the safety of our community, we also understand that wellbeing includes more than physical health and safety. The challenge has really brought out some creativity with our staff! We’re finding new ways for residents to be engaged, social, and of course, entertained. We’ve added new activities in place of trips and visiting performers.
Plus, many of you have seen the smiling face of Melissa, our activities director, as she helps families and residents find new ways to connect through technology. I’m moved by residents’ interest and intrigue about learning to use new technology. There is something new to learn from each other every day.
As always, I hope that this newsletter reaches you in good health. Along with everyone at DevonHouse, I would like to thank the whole community for their understanding and all of their well wishes, as we continue to work together to keep everyone safe and well.
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
We are celebrating Easter this month, with a special meal on Sunday, April 12th. Enjoy a traditional Easter ham with all the fixings. Then, on April 24th, I invite residents to savor our “Think Spring” theme meal. This special meal will feature seasonal dishes and lemon meringue pie for dessert.
As we move into spring, I am starting the process of changing over to our spring and summer menus. These menus feature more salad type entrees, along with your regular favorites.
The patio will be set up soon, and that means that patio picnics aren’t far behind! This warm-weather DevonHouse tradition will start back up in May. In the mean time, step outside and enjoy the fresh air!

News from Activities
It’s time to shake off winter! Get moving with exercise Monday through Saturday at 10:00 am in the living room. Or, join us for some indoor mini-golf on Tuesday afternoons and Wii Bowling on Thursday evenings. There are plenty of chances to get some exercise for your mind, too. Try a new game or craft this month. And if you haven’t been to trivia or a spelling bee, now is the time!
While our outside performers are temporarily on hold (we look forward to seeing them again soon), you can make some music of your own. Join us for a drum circle or hymn sing.
Keep an eye on the daily and weekly schedule for what’s new. There is plenty in store for April – more of your favorites, and some new, soon-to-be favorites, too!
