From The Desk Of The Executive Director
I hope that this message finds everyone safe, happy, and well.
Like everyone at home in the Lehigh Valley and around the region, we at DevonHouse are adapting to a “new normal.” That means finding creative ways to stay healthy and connected while maintaining safe social distancing protocols.
Over the past months, everyone here has worked together to adapt our dining program an our activities, so that residents can continue to enjoy special meals and pastimes.
We’re offering puzzles, trivia, and more through a special activities newsletter. As we move into warmer weather, we are looking ahead to ways to enjoy the patio safely in small groups.
Meals have always been a highlight of the day. While dining close together in the dining room may be off the menu for now, inspired seasonal meals and “always available” favorites are definitely still on, delivered right to residents’ rooms.
As a community, one of the most important parts of social distancing is making sure that residents and families stay connected. We’re assisting in keeping everyone in contact via phone, video chats, and “window waves.” If you’ve not participated in one of these and would like to do so, please reach out to us. We are all here for you.
Finally, I, along with everyone here at DevonHouse, appreciate how very difficult it is to be at a distance from your loved ones. We all care deeply for your loved ones as we keep them healthy, and make sure to remind them that we are with them in looking forward to in-person visits with family and friends.
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
This month we’re celebrating Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.
On May 10th we will have a special Mother’s Day menu at dinner, featuring luscious strawberry shortcake for dessert.
On Memorial Day, the menu is picnic style to kick off the summer, with summertime favorites, including fresh watermelon. I’m hopeful that soon we will all be back out on the patio to enjoy picnics together as we do every year.
We will continue in-room dining service for as long as it is best for everyone’s safety, and we’ll look forward to being back in the dining room when it is safe to do so.

In this new world, our spirit of learning and connection is continuing, just in a different way!
Keeping everyone connected and engaged is my highest priority, whether through daily newsletters, or helping with video calls.
Look for daily puzzles, trivia, and fun in the “The Perk.” Every day there is something new to learn and smile about.
I also have been helping with FaceTime video calls. If you have not yet connected with your loved one by FaceTime and would like to do so, please contact me directly.
