From The Desk Of The Executive Director
Hello everyone, and happy fall season! My name is Mike Cahill, and I am the new executive director here at DevonHouse. At the time I’m writing this, I’ve been on the job for four weeks. Everyone has been more than welcoming and I am quite excited to be here.
I’ve met nearly all residents and staff by now, but if you’re reading this and we somehow haven’t met, please do not hesitate to come to the office and say hello. I am a firm believer in a team approach, so it is important to me that I meet everyone. My time here so far has been spent learning about and getting to know residents and all of our staff.
As Vivian so nicely expressed last month when she introduced me, I have worked in healthcare for over thirty years. I have spent time in laundry, dining, and housekeeping, which helped me fully understand how the “back of the house” all works together to keep everything running smoothly. And, as an administrator and director, I have learned over the years that the very best I can bring to DevonHouse is complete support to all of the staff and management here, so that together we can best support our community of residents and families with the highest quality care.
Throughout the fall and into the new year, we at DevonHouse are focusing on continuing to build our relationships with each other and with our fantastic resident community to create the best and most fulfilling days possible.
Thank you to all who make DevonHouse great and have welcomed me!
– Mike Cahill
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
This month we’re celebrating Oktoberfest. The theme meal is on Thursday, October 15th, and features bratwurst with sauerkraut, wienerschnitzel, potato pancakes, black forest cake, and root beer.
Our quarterly brunch returns on Sunday, October 11th. For now, our brunches are resident-only events. Enjoy brunch favorites, like a special omelet and a variety of our other classic breakfast and lunch items.
The fall and winter menus are now in place, so you will see new entrees on the menu (along with old favorites) and different desserts and side dishes.

News from Activities
October is packed full of fun events!
On October 8th, our painting instructor, Judy Peters, returns to offer an outdoor painting class. Be sure to sign up! For safety, this event is limited to eight people.
Socially distanced, outdoor religious services are also available. The first Sunday of the month St. Thomas More Church will offer Catholic communion on the patio.
While the summer concert series and theme days have come to a close, we’re continuing the spirit. There is live music on the patio on Tuesday afternoons, and our Friday socials return with wine and cheese or ice cream delivered right to your door!
Few things say autumn like a kicking back and enjoying a football game. Each Sunday this month, we’ll have a tailgating and game watching get-together in the living room with snacks and soft drinks.
Finally, in lieu of our annual trick-or-treat night, we’re hosting a (socially distant) Halloween gathering on October 30th. Wear your best costume!
