From The Desk Of The Executive Director
This has been a busy summer at DevonHouse! I’m so pleased to share with you that our dining room has reopened and our calendar continues to fill with outdoor entertainment.
It’s such a delight to see our residents enjoying their meals as a community. Of course, the dining room looks different in order to keep everyone safe – there are more tables and more seatings – but that doesn’t change the feeling of community we have when people dine together.
Our outdoor concert series kicked off last month with resident favorite Michael Kopp. The concerts are in the evening on the patio, after the weather cools. There is plenty of space, and those with apartments facing the courtyard get a personal serenade! It’s great to see everyone staying safe while having such a good time.
We are all pleased to be spending more time together. Our residents’ safety and happiness is our top priority, and I, along with all of the staff here, continue working hard to find the safest ways to adapt to changing guidelines and keep everyone protected and well.
Please continue to be vigilant as the state restrictions and guidelines change. Wear a mask, maintain social distance, and of course, wash your hands!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
August means it is time for our annual luau! This is a fun, yearly tradition, with a special Hawaiian themed menu bursting with all kinds of tropical flavors: coconut, barbecue, and of course, pineapple! While we’re all looking forward to it as we do every year, this year the luau will be a resident-only event for everyone’s safety.
The dining room has re-opened, with abundant precautions in place. We are carefully following state guidelines, which include each resident having their own table. That’s why we’ve added more tables, expanded the dining room into the living room, and added a third seating. This will be in place for the as long as it is the best and safest practice.

News from Activities
Summer fun continues into August! Last month we kicked off our summer concert series, and it was such a hit that we’re continuing it into August. The outdoor concerts are every Tuesday evening on the back patio at 6:30 pm (weather permitting). We are proud to support our loyal, local performers. They missed us and we missed them, too!
Residents who have a courtyard view have enjoyed their front row seats by their open windows. That allows even more of our community to enjoy the show on the patio while maintaining social distance.
We are also continuing “Feel Good Fridays” in August. Every Friday we have a dress-up theme and a themed afternoon activity. Look for a visit from the Iron Pigs mascot on “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” Day, funnel cakes and polka music on Polka Dot Day, and some nifty tunes on Nifty 50s day. Residents and staff are encouraged to dress up and participate. It’s the most fun when everyone gets involved, and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed!
