From The Desk Of The Executive Director
I hope this letter finds everyone in the DevonHouse family well and safe.
Summertime is here, and the warm and sunny days are perfect for getting outside. It’s been wonderful to see residents getting together on our patio in small, safe groups. We’ve been encouraging everyone to enjoy time outdoors safely, and we’re holding small group activities that maintain physical distance while offering opportunities to socialize and enjoy the sunny days. The patio is the place to be to catch up on news and enjoy the outdoors. Happily, we’re also able to have small groups on the patio for meals, too.
Bingo – always a favorite! – and plenty of opportunities for exercise are making their way back on the calendar daily. And, we continue to keep everyone sharp with daily word searches and Boggle challenges.
Although life may be a little different this summer, it is still a time for fun traditions. We’re looking forward to celebrating Independence Day here with an all-American picnic.
As businesses in the region move towards opening with new protocols, we are monitoring all changes, and developing procedures that are both in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines and meet our own high standards to keep everyone safe. If you have any questions, please do contact us directly.
Again, thank you to everyone in our community of residents, families, and friends for your understanding and patience as the environment continues to change.
As ever, here at DevonHouse, our priority is to work together to protect the physical health and overall wellbeing of our community.
I wish each and every one of you a safe, healthy, and happy summer.
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
It’s July, and that means we’re celebrating Independence Day. On July 4th, enjoy a picnic style meal. The all-American sandwich menu features favorites like pork barbecue and chicken club. Weather permitting, this will be a patio picnic for ten residents at a time in order to keep everyone safe.
Here is an update on the plan for dining as we move into the “green” phase: once we are permitted to do so, we will add tables to the living room in order to accommodate the space needed for distancing (per the Department of Health), and offer three seatings per meal. We will also continue our in-room service, even when the dining room is re-opened.

News from Activities
With the warm, sunny weather here, it’s been great to get out to the patio more! I will continue to organize small group activities outside, as long as the weather is pleasant.
Every day, we’re serving lunch to a small group on the patio, followed by an afternoon of bingo and exercise. In order to comply with social distancing protocols, activities are being held for 10 participants at a time. We’re alternating participants so that everyone gets as many opportunities as possible to participate.
Have you seen the sign in the living room from Girl Scout Troop 6336? It was so nice of them to send it to us to brighten our days!
See you on the patio!
-Melissa Bartynski, Director of Activities
